Anger is a God-given emotion. This emotion, in itself, is not a bad thing, in fact quite the opposite. How one deals with anger is an entirely different matter. It took me a long time to grasp the difference between responding and reacting. Where we get into trouble is when we react–take action without thinking. There are times when reacting may save our lives and/or the lives of others, but it’s when the reaction harms another–well that’s the problem. Responding is taking the time to think about how we want to deal with the situation. I didn’t understand the value of counting to ten before taking action. If someone would have taken the time to explain it to me when I was a child–well, let’s say I would have had a better life.
