Anger Management in Sobriety

Quality Time

Take your children individually for a ride and talk with them about how and what they are doing.  The car is a very private place where you can discuss sensitive issues such as a behavioral problem rather than confronting them in front of their siblings.  One-on-ones always convey the message "you are important to me and I want to spend time alone with you".

Write Down Your Thoughts

If you are separated from a child you can still talk to him/her. Purchase a notebook or a journal. Every day you can write down your thoughts toward him/her. Then when there is an appropriate time you can let them read it. They will know you were thinking of them. Sometimes it is easier to write down deep, intimate feelings. They call these writings "love letters". Sending letters or cards, even post cards, is a powerful yet inexpensive way to let someone know you are thinking of them. You don't have to use a lot of words to say a lot.

Pass It On

Thomas Nelson, Inc. has published a book, illustrated with Thomas Kinkade paintings, titled Father's Memories To His Child. It is an excellent way to leave a legacy to your child. It is a way to pass your entire life experience on to your heir so your lineage will know you. This will take time, thought and may be stressful. Regardless, the benefits to you and them will be immeasurable.
