Robert McGee graduated from both Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University. Between those universities he was trained as a helicopter pilot and served in Vietnam.     After several years of counseling in Oklahoma, he moved to Texas with his wife, Marilyn, and daughter, Faith.

The Search for Significance reflects McGee’s commitment to taking care of foundational issues first when it comes to helping people. There is nothing more fundamental than a person’s understanding of themselves. This self-perception governs every aspect of a person’s life and is directly addressed by God in Scripture.  From the earliest versions of The Search for Significance, the presentation of this information proved so extremely effective that there were several counseling centers created in Houston, Texas that focused on beginning with this material.

In 1986, McGee founded Rapha, a nationally recognized health care organization that provided in-hospital care with a Christ-centered perspective for adults and adolescents suffering with psychiatric and substance abuse problems. McGee wrote most of the curriculum that was used on the hospital units as well as provided for small group and support group leader training. Ten years after Rapha began, over 30,000 patients had been treated and far exceeding 100,000 people had been trained to lead small groups and support groups.
