Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV The Greek word for truth is aletheia {al-ay'-thi-a}. The Blue Letter Bible allows you to look up a verse and then click on a concordance (Strong's) to find the original meaning of words. One of the levels of meaning for the word aletheia {al-ay'-thi-a} is “the true notions of God which are open to human reason without his supernatural intervention”. If something, anything is true, it comes from Jesus The Christ.
2 + 2 = 4 is not in the Bible, yet it is true.
The law of gravity is not in the Bible, yet it is true.
The fact that the earth travels 67,000 miles per hour to circle the sun every 365.25 days per year is not in the Bible, yet it is true.
The twelve steps of AA and related programs are not quoted in the Bible, yet they are true. You will find concepts on this site that are not taken directly from scripture. Does this make them untrue? Not if they are supported by the principle of scripture. Consider the concept of forgiveness (click on the link, read the concept, and then come back to finish this page). Read this verse "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9 KJV. Again using Blue Letter Bible the Greek word for forgiveness is aphiemi {af-ee'-ay-mee}of which one of the levels of meaning is “to send forth, yield up, to expire”. The Old Testament taught “an eye for an eye” Lev. 24:20 but Mat. 5:38 - 44 and Luke 11:4 teach forgiveness. The difference between God and us is He totally forgets confessed sin, “As far as the east is from the west, [so] far hath he removed our transgressions from us”. Psalm 103:12. I have heard many say “if you have not forgotten, you have not forgiven”. This is a guilt ridden statement as there are tremendously severe things that happen to people that the human mind is incapable of forgetting. This is not to say The Holy Spirit cannot perform miracles in a mind. Forgiveness is letting God, the ultimate authority, deal with the wrong and me taking my hands off. I am to love the person regardless of action. Isn't that what God does with us? Unconditional love? Admittedly, it is the hardest principle I have found to apply to my life. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not [in] the oldness of the letter. Rom. 7:6 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. John 4:23 |
